Soon I’ll be 60 years old

Soon I’ll be 60 years old

4 marriages, one at 17, one for a green card, one for a baby and one mistake.

2 children conceived, one lived to 23, the other one didn’t make it out of the womb.

20 plus jobs, a few boyfriends, lots of shopping, lots of mistakes, no regrets.

Bossy, bolshy, feisty, got most of that from my Mum.

Mum died when I was 50, son died when I was 55 and dad died the same year. I’ve got a brother but we don’t ever speak.

A lot of friends lost and found along the way, some have endured some have fallen by the wayside.

Always seeking, searching, yearning, quite brave really I suppose. Frosty on the outside, mushy on the inside.

Haven’t yet met a man that can love the whole of me with all my flaws, faults and strops.

Found peace in Cornwall with a little dog and reinventing myself as a student journalist at 58, that rocks!

Not many people will spend their 60th birthday in the Sahara Desert climbing a sand dune and remembering a lost soul, while searching for a bright tomorrow.

I don’t have a lot of children to warm me and the world can be cold, but that’s OK.

A new chapter awaits.

Blog post inspired by 7 years – Lukas Graham

Once I was seven years old my mama told me
Go make yourself some friends or you’ll be lonely
Once I was seven years old

Once I was eleven years old my daddy told me
Go get yourself a wife or you’ll be lonely
Once I was eleven years old

Once I was 20 years old, my story got told
Before the morning sun, when life was lonely
Once I was 20 years old

Soon I’ll be 60 years old, will I think the world is cold
Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me

  1. Oh Anne you are NOT frosty on the outside! I think you are the most incredibly warm and compassionate person who is brave and inspirational and a leader among us bereaved parents. Your positive attitude and your humanity give me strength and courage.
I am so sorry that you don’t have more children to warm you but you still have Toby inside your heart to warm you, and you have many, many friends, even if you have not met them all personally.
Good luck with the trip, and love
    Henrietta xx

Happy birthday Anne. You are an incredible comfort for so many people like me when they are at their lowest. I hope and pray that you find comfort, acceptance and peace in whatever you do this year and for many more years to come.
